Spotlight: Vectorworks 2027, and a cleaner Revit and DWG handoff
Vectorworks 2027 is shipping. Revit families and DWG dynamic blocks import as live objects, and a geolocation wizard lines up surveys.

That is a product release, not a waitlist. English-language Architect, Landmark, Spotlight, Design Suite, Fundamentals, ConnectCAD and Braceworks builds are available now. Localized editions start in October. The useful change for mixed shops is not the new texture dialog. It is how consultant content and site coordinates come in.
Most Vectorworks jobs still live next to a Revit model or a DWG set. The usual waste is import cleanup: explode a family, lose the types, rebuild the door, then argue about why the site sits two metres off. Vectorworks’ claim, repeated on the What’s New page and by Engineering.com, is that those files can arrive as objects you can still switch, not as dead geometry.
What actually changed
Revit families can import as one dynamic object that holds every type and its metadata. You change configuration in the Object Info palette instead of running the importer again for each type. That is the sentence BIM leads should test. It is still a Vectorworks object. It is not a live .rfa sitting inside Revit. Nested families, shared parameters and graphic overrides are the first things that break when a vendor says “data-rich.”
DXF and DWG Dynamic Blocks get a similar path. You can convert each representation to an editable symbol, or fold them into one Dynamic Object with a type dropdown so instances update together. Batch DWG/DXF export is also tighter: set the consultant package once, write several files in one pass. Native FBX import is there for geometry, hierarchies and materials from visualization seats.
The other coordination change is location. The Geolocation Setup Wizard is meant to park surveys, point clouds, GIS layers and location imagery on a single survey point, then let you flip between local project coordinates and true geospatial positions. Subscription customers can pull Google Maps imagery in that same setup. Use the map to see the site. Do not use it as the control. The survey point is the record.
Renovation work gets a quieter upgrade: the phasing system can now drive data visualization sets, with Existing, New, Demolished, Relocated and Temporary statuses feeding drawings and reports from one source. Door and window tools add native controls for pivot doors, sill profiles and corner assemblies. Area takeoffs can follow DIN 277, NEN 2580, SIA 416 or a custom rule.
The rest of the release is performance and pictures. Vectorworks says Metal on Mac and Vulkan on Windows move navigation onto the GPU, with vendor figures of 15x to 35x on pan and zoom. Subscription seats also get the AI Visualizer with Google’s Nano Banana models. Neither of those is a coordination standard.
What a BIM lead should do
If the firm already authors in Vectorworks and eats Revit or AutoCAD content, this is worth a day on a copy of a live job. Import one messy consultant family and one DWG that still uses Dynamic Blocks. Write down which types, parameters and graphics survived. Run the geolocation wizard against a known survey point and a scan, then overlay the result on the federated model you already trust.
Do not rebuild the office library because the importer looks cleaner. Keep the same exchange rules you already use: named types, a coordinate statement, and a human check before anything is issued. Localized builds are still rolling out, so confirm the English 2027 seat is the one your market is allowed to run.
